Today is World Health Day 2017, a day of global health awareness celebrated annually on this day & sponsored by the World Health Organization. The WHO’s focus this year is depression. It states that “depression is the leading cause of ill health and disability worldwide. More than 300 million people are now living with depression”.
I’m extremely fortunate not to to suffer from depression but, like many people, I have periods of anxiety when life just gets too hectic, complicated or out of my control for whatever reason.
Over the years I’ve learnt to better manage anxiety by “taking a beat” as the Americans say. To stop for a moment, concentrate on my breathing and and think more carefully about what I’m doing. This helps me move forward with a more positive outlook. It doesn’t always work, but I keep trying.
On this note, I went out for lunch today, the first time in what feels like months where I’ve done anything for myself. Just look at this delicious plate from Bareburger. A juicy grilled lemon chicken burger wrapped in collard greens with a ton of yummy fillings. Not only was it amazing to eat, but it was just great to take a beat and exhale.
I hope you have a positive and happy day wherever you may be :).
