An Apple A Day Keeps the Doctor Away

This traditional expression is really very useful and there’s plenty of truth to take from it.
Apples are not only super packed with vitamins but are also part of a group of fruits that have a glycemic index of 55 or less, which is true of all slow burning carbohydrates.

Eating foods that have a low glycemic index (GI) keeps you more satisfied and fuller for longer.  It can also aid with weight loss and weight maintenance which has an extremely beneficial knock on effect on your overall health.

Other examples of slow burning carb fruits are grapes, oranges, dried apricots, kiwis and pears – which I have added to my breakfast oats here along with some sliced apple, cranberries, pistachio nuts and pumpkin seeds.  A little sprinkling of flax and chia seeds and this becomes a nutrition friendly clean eating breakfast.  I’ll be keeping the Doctor at arm’s length today!
