I’m Always Chia-full: Banana & Chia Seed Oatmeal

Hope you’re enjoying your weekend and will get some time to relax.

Here at IK, Saturday mornings are totally sacred and nothing gets done until my better half and I have had some coffee and a read of the newspaper.  Heaven.

This morning I chose some sliced banana and kiwi plus a little handful of pecan nuts and some leftover granola bar to go with my oatmeal.  I’ve also just started using white chia seeds (I normally buy black ones) and I have to say they taste great.

Chia seeds have a wealth of benefits for our health and to save time, I’ll list a few of them below:

  • They contain Omega 3 fatty acids.  We could all do with upping our intake but it’s particularly important for vegetarians and vegans who don’t get it from oily fish for example.
  • They contain minerals such as calcium, magnesium and manganese which help guard against hypertension and help you keep your weight on track.
  • They make you feel fuller and more satisfied.


I’m off now to eat this bowl and get back to reading the newspaper :).

  1. I too add chia seeds to almost everything –latest is in peanut butter. My uncle, a design engineer would eat 6 almonds a day. I suppose any nut will do (pecans). He lived to be 100. Also, he never ate sugar except in dark chocolate bars. He was worried he was adding too much sugar in his hot chocolate. He made his cocoa from scratch. Old school. 💖

Aww that’s so sweet that you have your “Saturday Morning Routine.” No matter how small or simple a routine can be, I’ve learned that it’s always to nice have a routine as you can fall back on it after a long week or long day. I really need to kickstart my love for reading again though. I used to be the kid who would snuggle up with a book after Saturday breakfast (or is more like brunch since it was at 10am haha) and read for the whole day. I loved those days where I would either be outside in the sunshine or inside on the couch with a good book. Thanks for sharing Shadee and of course, the witty title (you’re such a pro!) xoxo, Steph
