How to Build the Perfect Salad

You’re looking at this title and thinking “well that’s not rocket science is it?”.  Yes I agree too but if, like me, you eat a lot of salads, then making them more interesting or adding to the standard repertoires are quite useful things.

When I was in England  this Summer I saw this very helpful image produced by a major British supermarket chain that spells it all out very neatly and easily.  So basically you’re looking at a greens base with the addition of other colored vegetables, some proteins and some crunchy toppings.  Then you alternate a bunch of easy to prepare dressings and you’ve got a meal made in minutes that is satisfying and nutritious.

Here are some of the salads I’ve blogged about that follow these guidelines (mostly!).

Greek Salad

Roasted Butternut Squash and Goat’s Cheese Salad

Broccoli & Turkey Bacon Salad

Chopped Salad with Smoked Tofu & Pita Chips

Hope this helps.

I’d love to hear your salad choices, I’m always on the lookout for other cool recipes!

Have a great Friday everybody 🙂
