Should we be still be eating our 5 a day portions of fruit and vegetables? Well yes but “eating the rainbow” of colored fresh produce has become a more popular catchphrase in recent press relating to nutrition.
The range of colored fresh produce available in most grocery stores is absolutely fantastic with the colors telling you a lot about their nutritional values. Eating a variety of colors is one sure method to get as many vitamins and minerals as possible (and eat a broad, diverse amount of food in the process.)
It’s not difficult to get the vitamins and nutrients you need from a solid, balanced diet, but it can be difficult if you’re a picky eater, or have children who don’t exactly like to expand their horizons.
Here’s a great read from kitchn.com that outlines WHY eating the different colors (and what each color represents) is so good for our health. It’s time to lay off the “beige” food and go as colorful as possible!
