These beautiful French heirloom tomatoes were recently on sale at the Prospect Park Farmers’ Market in Brooklyn.  Don’t they just make a lovely photo?

Tomato season is now in full and glorious swing and they really can be enjoyed at their very best and in many varieties (grape, plum, beef, cherry, heirloom, vine etc.).  They are a very versatile fruit, easily used in cold and hot dishes alike.

The health benefits of tomatoes include improved eye sight, good stomach health, reduced blood pressure, skin problems and urinary tract infections. Added to this, tomatoes can increase digestion, stimulate blood circulation, reduce cholesterol levels, improve fluid balance, protect the kidneys, detoxify the body, prevent premature aging, and reduce inflammation & related conditions. Tomatoes also consist of a large number of antioxidants that have been proven to fight different forms of cancer. That is a LOT that the humble tomato can help with, right?
