Strawberry Fields Forever

I’m blogging right now on a warm and light English summer’s evening.  It has truly been the perfect summer’s day today and when the sun shines here in England, it really is a green and pleasant land.

FullSizeRender (6)We are celebrating my in-laws 50th wedding anniversary tomorrow. It’s been a flurry of activity preparing for the big day, but also been lots of fun doing some quintessentially English things today from watching the local cricket team playing a great match to enjoying some beautiful English countryside as well as going to pick fresh strawberries from a farm, ready for tomorrow’s party dessert.

FullSizeRender (7)Picking your own fruit and vegetables at farms in the countryside is a very popular weekend pastime during the English Summer.    Strawberries are a delicious nutrient rich fruit.  Not only are they colorful and juicy but they are a great source of Vitamin C.  One serving of strawberries contains 51.5 mg of Vitamin C—about half of your daily requirement. Double a serving to one cup and get 100 percent. Vitamin C is a well-known immunity booster, as well as a powerful, fast-working antioxidant.
