A Fishy Treat

England might be going through a pretty tough time right now but it doesn’t stop it from having the best pubs in the world.  As you may know we’re on holiday right now in England and whilst the weather may be a too little cold for my liking, these days the delicious food and drink that you get in a quality Pub makes up for the cooler temperatures.

FullSizeRender (4)This morning we took the kids on a glorious walk in nearby woods to where my in-laws live 1 hour south of London, in beautiful green and pretty countryside.  After a couple of hours we were hungry and thirsty and ready for a good lunch.  I suggested trying the Holly Bush Pub in Frensham, Surrey which is housed in a very pretty farmhouse style building and is located in a tiny village along a long winding English country road.

Whenever I’m back in England I treat myself daily to the extremely high quality fish and shellfish that is plentiful, unbelievably delicious and certainly not as expensive as you get in New York.  The Holly Bush had a wonderful sharing plate on their lunch menu, a mix of fresh mackerel pate, light calamari, tiger prawns and some other yummy bits and bobs.  My better half and I were supposed to be sharing it but the kids got in on the act and barely left us anything to eat!!!  With a nice pint of proper English beer, my better half was really happy too.

Oily fish such as salmon, mackerel and sardines are said to help against cardiovascular disease, prostate cancer, age-related vision loss and dementia. It’s a good source of vitamin D, protein, some B vitamins and selenium. It’s also a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids, a type of fat that is good for our health.
